Stupid Liberals

Here is my third column for the Collegian. Instead of taking one jab at Green Day, I decide to devote a few more sentences to them. Enjoy!

hey, i'm right there with you. green day's music is not my cup of tea, but (and i think you would agree) the problem is not a band of high school dropouts that speak passionately about politics, foreign policy, etc., in their music. the problem is the fact that our political system is so disengaged from the youth - indeed the average person - of our nation that they are getting their education from the likes of people like green day and sean penn.

and this is nothing new. the pitfalls of our political processes are not novel ones. truth is our nation is a fertile breeding ground for uninformed, follow-the-lead lemurs, (is that how you spell that?) and the lead lemurs are marching right off the cliff.

what compounds matters is that the average american in our nation doesn't care enough to make a change. "politics is politics and it will always be that way" we say with shrugged shoulders. our nation could be rightly diagnosed with ADD with regard to national politics. sure if something happens like 9/11 we are right there, glued to our tvs with tears in our eyes. we passionately state how we will not give up without a fight, and God bless america. yet here we are just a few years removed and most people in america cannot even name the year it happened.

both conservatives and liberals are at fault equally in endorsing political behavior that has nothing to do with independent thought or critical thinking and everything to do with maintaining the comfort zone of the elitists with regard to power, money, and fame.

if we want to see a change in this nation it must start with a change in the attitudes of our youth. and if you figure that out, write a book, make your billions, and donate all your money to starving students at dallas seminary.
